Many students come into the writing center looking for help with grammar and mechanics. Below are some guidelines that can help you to better understand the reasoning behind many of the issues with mechanics that we see on a regular basis.

In the writing process, checking for proper grammar and mechanics is mostly a lower order concern. This means that you should get the paper written out before you spend a great deal of time worrying about whether or not a comma is set in the right place.
