To provide the best service possible to Old Dominion University’s distance students, The Writing Center (the WC) conducts online tutorials using interactive software. Specifically, we use Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro, which students can access for free through any web browser. Adobe Connect allows the tutor and student access to a combination of video, audio, and chat while looking at the student’s paper.
Setting Up an Appointment
Like students setting up an appointment for a face-to-face tutorial, you will want to set up an appointment with the WC by calling our office (757.683.4013) during our hours of operation (Monday and Tuesday: 9 am – 8 pm; Wednesday and Thursday: 9am-7pm; Friday: 9 am – 2 pm). When calling, please remember to identify yourself as a distance student so your tutorial can be scheduled appropriately. The tutor will ask for your email address so that s/he can send you an email with further instructions and the URL of the online tutorial room.
Preparing for the Tutorial
To understand how to use the Acrobat Connect technolgy, please watch the video or read the documentation.
Your feedback on your tutorial experiences is appreciated. Following the completion of your tutorial, we will ask for your feedback to assess the value of this approach to tutoring and revise our approaches to this type of tutorial. This feedback will be used to evaluate our methods and to talk to other instructors and tutors at conferences and through publications about the value of and best practices for using this technology. Providing feedback is strictly voluntary. You can provide feedback by filling out our survey.
Thank you for working with The Writing Center; we appreciate your time and effort.
